Sketches from Paris

A selection of sketches from my moleskine diary.

Some are sketches from cafe's in Paris, one is from my imagination, and some are "blind contour" self portraits - an exercise I make my students do a lot, that they are confused by, but I think it is excellent practice for someone like me who is so tight and rigid when it comes to style.

This Side of Mortality

A series of four "portraits" painted in my quiet time in Paris and London.
Ps. all four are the lips of boys - not girls.

Lost in Paris

At the end of my first week in Paris, I have fallen under the charm of this place. I have had no time to draw or sketch, (and am pretty terrible at en plein air anyway) but I have spent most of my free time wandering the streets, enjoying the vibe of the charming alleyways and wonderful architecture.
Visiting the famous Café de Flore and Ladurée was a treat.

I've seen some inspiring art, and finally had the pleasure of viewing paintings and sculptures that I studied at Art School with my own eyes.

However, one of my highlights was wandering (awkwardly) into the tiny Musée Dupuytren, where I sketched some eery 'specimens'. I had a wonderful encounter and conversation with another artist sketching there, the whole thing quite surreal in hindsight. Unfortunately, small slips of paper with information printed in small, neat handwriting tend to get easily destroyed when you're helping to look after two small children. And it is harder than I thought to locate a gallery from memory.

And finally, a message for a stranger in Paris......I got lost. I wandered about the streets of Bastille, French girls with i-phones attempted to help me locate the gallery, but all to no avail. The wind picked up, the rain poured down, and after a few hours I admitted defeat.

Feather Ribs

The final painting to fill the walls for my first Solo Exhibition, opening this May at the Eszterház Palace in Győr. No new paintings will be showcased for a while, as I am heading to Paris for a few weeks, and return to Hungary right before my show is to open. Take care, until then!

Fragile Glimpse

Tomorrow I take all my work to the Eszterház Palace in Győr to begin curating my Solo Exhibition. It's still a month away but I might be heading to Paris for a few weeks (insert incredible excitement) so we're trying to get as much preparation done this week as possible. Hopefully in a few days I can reveal the finished invite/flier!

I should have known

Watercolour on paper, 52 x 37 cm
Another milk-eyed seer. I’ve barely finalized the title for my upcoming Solo Show revolving around Hungarian folktales, but I’m already contemplating a title for this next body of work, to avoid always calling it “my new series”, or something else vaguely similar.
Here taped to the wall are my brainstormed ideas… I've managed to narrow it down to the closest 50...

Here is the next sketch, with the drawing finished she patiently awaits painting...
